Gregory R. Taylor

Class of 1999

GREGORY R. TAYLOR is an outstanding visual arts student in George Wythe High School's Magnet Arts Program. His artwork has been exhibited in countless locations throughout the City of Richmond. Truly devoted to his work, according to his instructor, Mr. William Johnson, Gregory has been the recipient of many well-deserved awards and honors. Some of his accomplishments as a result of his participation in exhibitions and competitions include the following: a first place award in Virginia Commonwealth University's Black History Community Week Competition and a Gold Medal Award in Painting and a Bronze Medal Award in Drawing from ACT-SO (Afro-Academic Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics). Gregory is especially proud to have an African textile wall hanging he created his freshman year on permanent display at the Virginia Black History Museum.

Equally devoted to his academic studies, Gregory is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. He has received an academic award from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He has also received an award from the American Legion Boys State of Virginia. Gregory's extracurricular activities include memberships in the school's Key Club, Drama Team, Future Business Leaders of America (Treasurer), GWHSOTA Student Council (Treasurer), and the cross country and track teams. He is also a very proud member of the school's Male Ensemble.

After graduation, Gregory plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University or the Philadelphia Institute of Art and Design. He hopes to one day own his own art gallery and business and to be known for his artwork throughout the United States and the world.
