Kaliah M. Jackson
Class of 2000
KALIAH M. JACKSON is assistant student director of Dance Advance!, George Wythe High School of the Arts' repertory dance troupe which is sponsored by Mrs. Rebecca Hodal. Kaliah has been a member of the school's dance program for three years. In her sophomore year, she was named Most Outstanding Dancer.
Kaliah's involvement in other school and community activities all seem to center around her strong interest in dance. She has been a member of the school's cheerleading squad and Richmond City Works. This year, she served as Marching Band Dance Team Captain. Kaliah also participated in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's Jabberwock Pageant and served on the Planning Committee. Kaliah often can be found, like many of her arts' friends, in the midi lab working on original music files for use in future choreographic designs. Recently, she has developed a love for the work of Beethoven, who she claims is the 'max composer' of all time.
Last year, Kaliah attended the Governor's School for the Visual and Performing Arts in the area of theatre. She is a member of George Wythe's State Championship Drama Team and was named Best All Around by drama director Derome Smith.
Kaliah has applied for two summer residency dance programs, one at New York University and the other at University of the Arts. She has already heard from University of the Arts and is anxiously awaiting her audition date.
After graduation, Kaliah plans to attend college and major in dance. Her goals are to become a dance teacher and to open her very own school of dance.
