The Exceptional Education Department grows flowers of many different varieties. We strive to provide challenged students with the opportunity to blossom into whole young people. We often require that additional plant food, a little gravel, maybe a touch of sand, but most of all frequent watering and lots and lots of sunshine. It is then that children grow into healthy, hardy flowers that can bloom for a lifetime.

The primary, and foremost goal of the Exceptional Education Faculty is to ensure that our students receive an equal, free public education that is commensurate to our counterparts in the general education programs. We attempt to accomplish this goal through a variety of avenues to include the self contained, resource, collaborative, inclusion and partially to fully mainstreamed settings. The needs of our students are often great, but we accepted the challenge and we truly enjoy teaching, counseling, mothering, fathering, mentoring and just down right loving our special students.

In addition to providing our students with a top quality education, our primary focus during this school year has been 'inclusion.' We have successfully integrated six inclusion models. The Exceptional Education Teachers chose areas where our students have had the least success. One of these areas high on the priority list was Physical Education and Driver's Education. We jumped in and married up with general educators most receptive to inclusion education. Our models are as follows.......

(* Indicates general educator)

09 Physical Education - Ulanda Friday/Wanda Thompson*

09 Physical Education - Edward Woodson/Johnnie Jarman*

10 Physical Education - Nathan Walton/Phil Bladen *

Driver's Education - Cheryl Ball/Nancy Boutchyard*              Edna Francis/Nancy Boutchyard*

Art Foundation - Rita Foster/William Johnson*

At the end of of this school year, we will compare our pass/failure

rate to previous years to determine if we are making a difference.

Stay tuned for statistical data confirming our belief that we have

made a difference by helping our students succeed in areas we

have had little success in the past.
