Joyce Wooldridge

Ms. Joyce Wooldridge teaches choir, general music, and voice. She holds a BS degree in music from Hampton University. Mrs. Wooldridge is a member of many professional organizations including the Richmond Education Association, the Virginia Education Association, and the National Education Association. She also holds memberships in the Music Educators National Conference, the Virginia Choral Directors Association, and the Metropolitan Richmond Musician's Association of Negro Musicians, Inc.

In conjunction with Carlos Pozzi of the Arts and Humanities Center, Ms. Wooldridge has taught classical guitar to Henderson Middle School pupils. As a vocal music instructor at Albert Hill Middle School, Ms. Wooldridge led her choirs to numerous awards which included superior and excellent ratings in district competitions. Ms. Wooldridge has been a member of the George Wythe arts staff since 1990.

In the community, Ms. Wooldridge has served as an instructor for the James Cleveland Gospel Workshop of America and has given vocal technique clinics in many churches throughout the city.

In May, 1997, Ms. Wooldrige took the Male Ensemble and Show Choir, which she founded and directs, to international competition in Toronto, Canada. There, the performance groups won four awards: Trophy - Men's Chorus - All Around Champion; Trophy - Men's Chorus - First Place Plaque; Superior Performance Rating; Trophy - Outstanding Vocalist - Ramon Coleman. The Show Choir also won an Excellent Performance Rating.

Ms. Wooldridge has consistently entered her students in competitions on the local, state, and national levels. Additionally, her ensembles have performed throughout the city for churches, civic associations, and public and private schools. Most recently, the Male Ensemble was a featured performance group at the Virginia Museum of Fine Art's Christmas celebration.

A stauch advocate for exposing students to all areas of the arts, Ms. Wooldridge frequently takes members of her vocal groups to see cultural performances in and around Richmond-- Swan Lake, The Messiah, the Alvin Ailey Dancers, and the Harlem Boys' Choir, just to name a few.

Ms. Wooldridge has served on the Arts Student Orientation Committee, theAudition Committee, the Acart'n'me Awards Committee, the Arts Parent Luncheon Committee, and the That Great Big ArtsThing Committee.
