"Karan performing in the 9th grade with the Northern Nash High School Jazz Ensemble. This began her singing career and was her first recording experience as a featured vocalist on an album the ensemble recorded named "All Good Things". It was during this time that Karan began writing poetry, which later she turned into a talent for lyricism.

The concert was "The Eternal Return Concert" which the school hosted annually for the three years Richard Martin was director. During these concerts Karan learned to sing various styles: jazz, pop, country, and especially - began to develop her own unique style of song delivery. She learned to love performance, to gaze directly into her audience's eyes, and therefore, to make each member a part of it all.
